Impressive Google Android Statistics
Android Source as learned that at the Google developer conference on May 20, some impressive statistics where shared with regards to the popularity of the Android platform:
- Google is activating 100,000 Android phones a day. That’s a jump of 40,000 a day in 3 months.
- Since offering free turn-by-turn navigation, 1 billion miles have been mapped.
- The Android market already has 50,000 apps and 180,000 registered developers
Other Annoucments made at the conference:
- Android 2.2 was unveiled with the code name of Froyo (for Frozen Yogurt). This new platform is expected to be 2 – 5 time faster than running Eclair. Features of Froyo include integrated Microsoft Exchange, tethering, WiFi hotspot creation, saving large apps on the SD card, and Adobe Flash
- New developer updates including the seamless connection of your Chrome browser on your PC to the phone.
- Android market news included the ease of use while accessing the application catalog and sending applications directly to the phone from your PC. Google will be getting into content sales including music (think iTunes).
